Massage - fine. Any more than that, you risk catching anything from crabs to HIV. A lot of the girls are not girls at all. Also, some are under-age children. Don't do it!

Three main areas in Bangkok. Patpong Road is only used by tourists and is generally a rip off. Nana Plaza is way too tame in the bars but anything is available for hire but overloaded with trans-sexuals in various stages of change. Soi Cowboy has a lively atmosphere and is favored by most foreigners living in Thailand.
I have lived here for more than 12 years.
If you really want a massage there are literally hundreds of Thai massage places but the best is the Temple opposite the Grand Palace where the monks teach massage. If what you want is sex don't go there. Soi Cowboy will supply anything from a friendly drink to an all out orgy. You pay so you select.

there are 3 main red light districts in BKK: Nana Entertainment Centre, Soi Cowboy, and Patpong District. Nana and Cowboy are smaller than Patpong, which also has a night market besides gogo bars. All these places are really safe to walk around in, I always travel alone and never had problems. Avoid the massage parlours if you can, EVERY taxi driver you meet will try to take you to a massage parlour first, becos their friend owns it and they get some money for bringing you there. Make sure to tell them right away that you dont want to go there. Also, before you get in a taxi ask them if they have a meter. You will end up paying more than double if they dont use their meter. Patpong, Soi Cowboy, Nana thats where any first timers will end up.
If you are looking for something safer and cleaner, try out the higherend discos or Hard Rock Cafe.
Massage...traditional Thai....one hour hard traditional + one hour oil leaves you rejuvinated and satisfied.....
Those shady ones with the nice girls...massage probaly only for 10 minutes and the rest is..........
