God has stated that thou shall not lie. But i can think of a situation where lying would be morally acceptable such as if it was WW2 and i was hiding jews from the nazi and the nazi asked me if i had a jew in my house. It is easy to tell that telling the truth would be a bad thing to do. But thou shalt not lie, and no sin is greater than another sin. The sin i would have committed while lying would be equal to the sin of giving the jews to the nazi. If in this situation where do i draw the line? Do i listen to my heart? If the bible is just a guide and there are times that i should listen to my heart. Then what about homosexuality? Couldn't the same be said for that? It too is a sin much like lying but those people have harmed no one, should i treat them like they have commited a crime? I know that is morally wrong and shouldn't be? So do i follow my heart or the word of God? Lemme finish plz ran outta words hehe. THX FOR your patience

At which point do i draw the line between following the literal word of God and my heart. Homosexuals are a result of either genetic problems or results of society. Either way I am a heterosexual and i do not think i can ever turn homosexual and i think it is vice versa. If lying is okay in certain situation when the word of God clearly states it is not. What about the sin of homosexuality? Is there also cases where that would be okay? Because i can concieve of events that would be morally okay for all the sins. Such as being lazy (if i was sick) murdering someone in self defence. What about homosexuality? These people have harmed no one, if i follow my heart and what i believe God wants me to do I think God wants me to embrace them as they are, they are all children of God. So where do i draw the line in the bible between it being a guide and the literal word? Does it end with lying but theres so much more.

Think about this, Jesus healed a cripple on a Sabbath, when the writings clearly stated to keep the Sabbath holy and not work. When the holy sharks tried to persecute Jesus for this disregard for the commandments, Jesus shot back saying that this work was for God, and his actions were justified.
The example you used, that lying can be a part of God's work is similar to Jesus' experience. Very often, these black and white rules can turn out to be gray guidelines.
Follow your heart, not other people's and their narrow interpretations of the bible. It's a much broader book than many people make it out to be.
Think about this too. Jesus loves everyone, no matter their sexual orientation. I personally do not believe that homosexuality is a sin, even if it were, if homosexuals are going to hell for sinning, then so is everyone. After all, who is without sin? Who is not worthy of God's grace?

Keep reading the bible and you'll soon stop believing in it. It IS the word of the almighty God, right? The very commands of an omnipotent, perfect being, so how could ANY of it be wrong?

You are to take the bible literally. Every word of it. Anything less and you're not a good Christian.

But wait, your particular problem seems to go against the above logic! Curious! Could it be that the bible is just a "guide" for living a good life and isn't supposed to be taken literally? But if that's the case, then why would a perfect God allow such blasphemy? Why would such a God allow his Holy Word to be vague and open to interpretation?

Such a path MIGHT lead one to believe that God doesn't really exist, and that in the end the moral decision that you reach on your own is just as correct as the one the bible was suggesting.

In which case, why do you need the bible? Listen to your heart and use your head. Believe what you like, but don't let your religion blind you.

There are two ways to look at the Bible either from a literal view or a practical view. Personally i look at the Bible from a literal view where all that is said is completely true and there are no false reasons or interpritations behind it but u can also look at it practically in which all that is said can be translated to relate to todays time and situations. Thou God nor any of the prophets come straight out to say "you shall not lie" the closest interpretation we have to this moral is the eight commandment "THOU SHALT NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS AGAINST THY NEIGHBOR." and in both the literal and practical view interpreters (guided by the Holy Spirit) have only come to the conclussion to say that this commandment tells us not to have an ego, pride, jealousy, contempt, or a lack of self-discipline. Lieing, as you previously said, can be used for incredibly good and bad purposes. WHat you did to save those Jews was incredible and the Lord smiles down on you for it! On the case of Homosexuality, scripture readers have only found 4 instinces where Homosexuality is addressed in the Bible (Cor 6:9, Romans 1:26-27 are two of them I forget the other two) but even they dont specifically address the acts of Homosexuals but mention heterosexuals who were sleeping with both young men and women and addressing the need to stop that. God says in Genesis that man should not live alone and thus I dont believe he cares about who Man so much lives with but how they live. God sent Jesus as the new and everlasting covanent so that our sins my be forgiven through the shedding of blood of something much greater than an animal sacrafice. This incredible sacrafice takes away our sins for eternity and shows us that God doesn't care so much about what we do wrong but about what we do right and how we serve others. He wants us to be with him always and to join him in the after life and so he sent his son as the final sacrafice, because he needed to show His love for humanity, dislike for sin, and How we should live our lives through the example of Jesus Christ. You seem like an incredible person and I dont think God has anything less than an awesome love and plan for you. God Bless

These things have been happening for centuries. The thing about the ice caps is a little disturbing, but we'll chalk it up to your vivid imagination. Anyway, there is no doubt that Christ's return is closer than it was yesterday, but the bible also says that the return of Christ will be at an unknown time, like a thief in the night. The world may end tomorrow, or it may end in a thousand years.

God really did not give the command,"Thou shalt not lie." He did say not to bear false witness against a neighbour. You are right all sins are equal in the eyes of God. That is why we need the Savior, to take our sins away. I would personally lie to the Nazis if I was hiding Jews during WW2 and just leave it to God. Homosexuality is a sin like any other. Like people who have sex before marriage, that is sin. In reality without Christ we would all end up in hell. You treat gays the same way you treat anybody else. I just tell them they need Jesus, but then, I tell everybody that.

I haven't been a christian for THAT long, but I'm pretty well learned. The saying "thou shall not lie", simply means "Do not lie for the benefit of yourself" Does that make sense to you? About gay stuff, first of all I'm straight, and god does not go against homosexuality. Just because someone likes the same gender, doesn't count as a sin, that's where you should think to yourself, "Is that really considered bad?"

All in all, you should defidently follow your heart in the word of God. If you have any more questions, let me know, and also let me know if this helped or not. : )

Truthfulness if the foundation of all human virtues, so there are no situations in which lying is a valid act.

You shouldn't treat homosexuals like they've committed a crime. Their actions are between them and God, but that doesn't change the fact that homosexual practice is wrong.

Actually there is no commandment "thou shalt not lie."
The Bible does tell us not to complain, and to set a watch on our mouth and the things we say.

The Ultimate Authority is God. You are to follow the Law of the Land unless it is in disagreement with God's law (like murder)

Sin is sin and needs to be forgiven and then let go and not done again. God will help you follow His commands.

First off, you have to ignore your personal (natural) thoughts and emotions. God is not concerned with what one thinks and feels when it contradicts his word. What I have found is that when I ignore my own emotions and simply trust and lean on God's word, the outcome is always 100 times better than anything I could have done within my own power. The word of God is not to be added to nor subtracted from at any time, but you must allow the Holy spirit to lead you.

Joshua 2:4-5 Rah ab, who had hidden the two men replied. "The men were here earlier, but I did not know where they were from. They left the city at dusk, as the city gates were about to close, and I do not know where they went. If you hurry, you can probable catch up with them."
Rahab broke a lesser principle - telling the truth - to uphold a higher principle - protecting God's people.
