Game crashing to desktop could be caused by many things like : overheat, video card driver, sound card driver, not enough virtual memory,bugs,.......Need to know more infos to troubleshoot the problem. In the mean time you need to make sure your pc has the latest direct x driver from Microsoft, update your video card and soundcard drivers from the Dell website. Your Dell maybe new but it may still using the old drivers. Next, you need to go to the Sims 2 webpage and download the latest patch for the game. While on that site you should read the FAQS to see if there's any mention about the crashing problem as well as any fix. Hopefully this will fix the problem.
