Chocolate and flowers may be cliche, but they work wonders :P If the girl is a romantic that is!
But the best gifts come from knowing the girl well and knowing her likes. If she loves, for example, the Grateful Dead, then get her a Grateful Dead t-shirt! If she's crazy about cars, get her a miniature sports car of some fluffy dice or something :P There are lots of options if you know this girl well.

personally i hate flowers
they die too quickly and seem to be a waste of money
i would love a promise ring from my boyfriend
or if you're not that serious yet maybe get her a nice necklace
remember..diamonds are a girls best friend
if she doesn't like jewelry, get her tickets to a concert or game (if she's sporty)
if you just want a nice night alone, take her out to a nice restaurant and then treat her afterwards.

It depends on who the girl is. I think most girls appreciate it when a guy sacrifices something for her, like embarrassment from reading a poem to her out loud, or giving up a class ring or something, but again, it depends on what the girl likes.

first just find out what kind of things does she like and once you have done that then you can not go wrong there and here some things that you can give her

It dosen't have to be anything expenseve it has to be somthing cute but that she would like if your going to buy somthing if you want to give her somthing from you it should be from YOU somthing close to you they love things like that lol hope this helps
