would it not be better to build more environmentally efficient houses that use less energy and water recycling, this way there would be less co2 deposited into our atmosphere

Having trees near a house is not a good idea, the roots can damage the foundations. There is a minimum distance that you must plant various species of trees from a house.

It always boils down to money. You're either buying the new tree, or taking time out to plant it, or taking the time out to keep it healthy. It just isn't economical... ever heard of the Giai theory? It's that the world is like a living thing and we are the parasites like, and so when the world starts to feel that we are damaging it too much then it'll just get rid of us. Massive floods, hurricanes, volcanoes. That sort of thing, I agree with that.

i work for a builders and th ecst of land is extremely high and it would not be economical to use up on trees, it is up to the home owner to landscae accordingly. house builders are taxed enough to help the enviroment, they do have to make a living out of it too.

Because trees cost money! Most builders don't care about the environment... they care about making money! If they cared about the environment, they wouldn't cut down forested areas or develop on wetlands.

Well, I believe there was a recent study that indicated that an acre of grass land consumed more CO2 than an acre of trees.

They don't because that would be an entirely separate industry. That, and for the most part, they don't care too much about the environment.
