Be upbeat ... TAKE The Lead ... don't let him say anything first ... just say, "I'm so glad we're friends and that we're not complicated" (smile & look into his eyes) ... then suggest you hang out with other friends.

Whatever you do, don't send mixed signals. A guys who has liked you for so long has probably been scrutinizing every little interaction you've had with him that may be considered flirting. If you really don't like him, don't flirt with him, and he should get the idea. But if you still want to be friends with him, make sure anything you do is not "too friendly." For example, don't touch/tap him on the arm or shoulder if you're in a conversation with him.

Why don't you play it by ear? Go out with him and see how he is and what he is expecting. If the situation requires it, tell him that you are not ready yet, and would it be ok to stay friends with him. It might turn out that you worry over something that's not gonna come to pass. He might just like you as a friend and companion and might want to develop a friendship with you......

Tell him face to face how you feel about the subject not on the phone or through other people the best way to deal with something like this is in person and sincere hope this helps

You tell him the truth. Don't make up something. Honesty is the best policy. And if you lie to him it will only make things worse. If you want him as a friend show him by not lying. that will definitly ruin your friendship.

Start off by making sure it's you and him and he has your full attention. Tell him several of the good qualities you like about him then lead him towards you're just not ready to date right now.

All you do is say that all you want from him is a friendship until you want to get serious or that you are already dating some 1

Just be honest with him. There's no guarantee that his feelings still won't be hurt but it's best to be honest.

"I just want to be friends"
Just be honest and straight- don't try to avoid it, sugar coat it or be ambiguous about it.
