A caravan is classed as a road vehicle, as it is not taxed separately from the towing vehicle it cannot legally be parked on a public highway, because if it is not taxed then it is not insured, and any vehicle parked on the highway must be taxed and insured.

if a caravan is left on the street unhitched from your car the insurance is nil and void, you can take out extra cover for this with the insurance company but its not worth it as caravans are now on the hate list with the local councils and they will involve the police, the police then will find some thing to give you a hard time over ( no lights, cones, to close to a junction e.c.t. ) i now i have been through it. Bite the bullet and pay caravan storage its a lot les hassle

As long as your caravan is parked with due care and doesn't create and cause a parking hazard then it can be parked anywhere in the street within the area I live, W Lothian.
Other councils may have their own guide lines and you must contact your local council.
Good Luck
