You're not necessarily entitled to maternity pay. Your employer may offer it, check with the HR department. The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) applies to you if your company has more than 50 employees within a 75 mile radius. FMLA allows you to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave per year. You must give your employer 30 days notice prior to taking the leave, and when you return you aren't necessarily guaranteed to get your exact job back, but they must give you a job at the same level with the same rate of pay. Your employer may apply for an exemption from FMLA if you are in the top 10% of wage earners at your company, or for other specific reasons. If your company does not fall under the FMLA then it is up to your employer how much time they will allow you to take off unpaid.

Provided you have been employed by your current employer for a certain amount of time, you will be entitled to 90% of your current salary for 6 weks (or £108 per week if this is more) then £108 per wek for the next 20 weeks. Once the 26 weeks are up, you are then entitled to take a further 26 weeks off unpaid.

I think it depends where you are... and on how many hours a week you usually get. I just started my Maternity leave (I'm in BC Canada) and I was working about 40 hours a week, at $12 an hour... it also depends on how much you make an hour, or your salary.

But basically I believe you are entitled to 55% of your regular earnings. You really can't find out exactly how much you'll make until they accept your application and assess it. :) Hope that helps though!

For a vaginal birth you get 6 weeks paid DISABILITY PAY. You would get this if you injured yourself and couldnt work for a period of time....if you are working 'on the books' you will get this automatically and I think its 2/3 of your salary...they take taxes out of it too....(its 8 weeks paid if you have a C-Section)
The Family Leave Act offers no money its just there to insure that you can return to your job if you want to take 12 weeks off instead of 6 (or 8)

If your job does not offer paid maternity leave, the government has a law that you can take time off, unpaid, as "family leave act".

Look into it.
