People want instant answers to unruly kids. Doping them is one way to do it. I know there are many children who genuinely need medication for a medical condition, I'm not having a dig at those. I think its partly the fault of doctors who prescribe far too easily sometimes. My son has ADHD, but I was the opposite, I refused to have him on medication and he agreed with that. It was hard at times but we are through the worst now hes 18, he still has problems but is working through them.

ADHD was a man made illness that was created by psychiatrists for profit. To push drug companies drugs.
Drug companies and shrinks decided to rename a few problems. ADHD sounds better than hyper activity perhaps. Leg discomfort now has a psychiatric name = restless leg syndrome of which psychiatric drugs are prescribed for and the list goes on. And behind every issue comes the long list of damaging mind drugs that help few and damage most. In that list comes addiction and side affects.
A child with ADHD is misread and unfortunatly the shrinks and drug companies stand to make a lot of money for that.
There are many therapies that are not drug based and it is up to the parent to find the right therapy for thier child and get to the bottom of the problem. It will be hard work initially but the long term benefits for both child and family are rewarding and satisfying.
Children eating sweets and junk food suffer worst than a child whom eats healthy food.
It is a parents responsibility to find the best way to treat a child and drugs is not the way forward as it is pushing that child into an even darker area than they already feel they are in. But then like many parents, those who prescribe the drugs have the ability to convince parents its the only way and it isnt the only way.
These drugs are seriously damaging to a childs mind so if the child has a behaviour problem then the chances are it will get worst with drugs because the side affects cause agression, mood swings, deep depression, suicide, self harm and the list goes on. In the end you will not know what affects have come from the drugs or the childs original problems.

Many children are on these medications because doctors prescribe them and over diagnose ADHD. Being a parent of a son who has ADHD I know that there are really some children who need the medication to help them get through the day, get their work done, and just pay attention to any thing. If you knew anything about the disorder than you would know that these children won't sit in front of a TV.

No the reason so many children are on ADHD pills is because people have a misunderstanding of the pills and what they do and why they are given. Personally I am against the pills. Example my mum was always too busy and never home to take care of us my sister was on pills for ADHD and Wow! Without the pills she was hyper yes; with the pills she was worse. While on the pills she was starting fires at school, stealing, and lying.
Her son is eight and he is on ADHD medicine and without it he is short tension span, with it he seems out of it quite a bit as if the dose is too much. There really is an improvement in him though with the pills.

I believe that starting with a diet instead of medicine is best. I don't think it's the parents fault, most of the time they are just listening to what their Dr. says. And that's the really sad part. There is so much out there now in terms of sugarless gum, candy, chocolate that there is no need for these parents to feel their kids are being cheated out of these things. I say diet first, and meds as the last resort.

LOL. Yea if only that worked most kids get that stuff and if they don't really need it it's like prescription speed....Be very care if you are prescribed this for you child. If you are I suggest starting the regimen when you can moniter him the first day or two(like the weekend if possible) if it is like giving him a pound of sugar to wash down with A coke and he is buzzing all over the place he may not need it or not as strong after a week or so he will become used to it though.

I think you are on the right track with your assertions. Plus, since the US government, in its infinite wisdom, recognizes there IS such a thing as ADHD (most other countries don't), insurance will pay for the medication. So, parents get a free pass on this deal - free medicine and not having to discipline their children. ThenI, as a teacher, must be aware of their "disorder" and be sympathetic to their needs, while many kids hide behind this "disease" and play the game. It is sickening and disgusting. Kids - and their parents - get out of all responsibility.

I extremely have a new child who's ten years previous. he's ADHD and has Asperger's Syndrome. We did the drugs situation for about 5 years. We tried each little thing. not something worked. he's now drugs loose and it somewhat is been the suited situation for him. purely through fact a physician says he might desire to be on it does not advise something. they are human beings like us. drugs isn't the respond. are you able to alter his nutrition plan? Does he choose extra supplements? We have been "conned" into questioning he mandatory drugs considering that's what scientific docs mentioned, yet in addition they misdiagnosed my new child as epileptic earlier ADHD and positioned him on a medicine that replaced into not authorized for little ones below the age of sixteen. My son replaced into 5. He became torpid and started out stuttering and lost activity in examining and studying. we are nevertheless battling that. be careful and stick on your gut. try the drugs in case you sense it ought to help, yet be sure he's suggested each month on the drugs and actually have his blood checked each six months to confirm issues like his liver are functioning exact. in case you do not purely like the so suggested as advancements he's had than try a various drugs or try a "organic" scientific care liek changing his nutrition plan.

Because so many parents are stupid and lazy.
I am an ADHD child started Ritalin when I was 14. Even went to a special school for disruptive children who were also all on meds and are still some of my best friends 15 years later. It is a bunch of bull$h@t get your kids of the meds and get back to reality. It is a hindrance not a help.

I think ADHD is fairly common, but a lot of people think too many kids are getting this diagnosis. I think part of it is due to irresponsible doctors who are too quick to give out medication. Also, parents who don't have time to talk to their kids, and teachers who aren't very good at keeping kids in line.
