The original purpose of the marine corp was to be a land fighting unit for the navy and that is why today they still fall under the NAVY. there are units still today that sail on ships and are bored out of there gorgue. The only things that u can do is P.T, clean weapons, and Run. While in the Army they offer 100's of different training options, college, and a LIFE. your choice.

Having been a Marine and now being in the Army I think I can speak with some authority on this. There really isn't a "better" one. There are things I loved about the Corps and there are things I hated too. I also love the Army as well and sometimes I hate it. The best thing for you to do is to look at and read the history of both and then decide what appeals to you more. Your options to do more things are better in the Army I will tell you that. You can attend alot more miltary schools. I guess if I had to put it in a nutshell it is like apples and oranges. They are both fruits, just different kinds. Army and Marines are like that. Both Fighting forces, just different kinds.

Neither is "better". They each serve a different purpose. Ideally, the Marines are for "expeditionary" warfare. They are a much smaller, lighter force. They are meant to travel by sea and land amphibiously, take an area and effect change. They are not meant for large scale invasions. They are best initially and for short term security, rescue or regime change. Their infrastructure is not meant for the long haul. The Army is heavy on armor and artillery. They are best in large scale invasions and occupations.

I recommend you think about your own strengths and weaknesses, and pick the branch that will make the most of your strengths while helping you strengthen your weaknesses. I know that sounds dorky, but if you think about it, your question is like asking... Is it best to work for IBM or Apple.?? They're both major computer manufacturors, but they handle their human resources differently and generate different products. One may fit your needs while the other doesn't.

So.. think about your own personal skills and needs for the next year, keep your grades up, and get into a regular routine of physical exercise. During your junior year, take the "practice" ASVAB. Understand that the practice is typically easier than the true ASVAB. Once you know what jobs you might qualify for, based on your ASVAB score and your high school record, you'll be able to talk to recruiters about what career paths most interest you and how you might best be used within that career path.

I'm certain that process will help you decide which branch is for you.

The Marines are better. They take care of their people. The army doesn't always do that.
The military is not considered a dead end by the people that make it a career.
Get into something that you are interested in and excel. You will do GREAT.
