when i put a dvd in to watch on windows media it gives me the dvd picture but not the sound

There is no way i know of, of how to fix this problem. Try downloading video player from www.download.com. It works for me all the time but it's a bit harder to use than windows media player

It sounds like you may need codecs.

If you take a look at the following site, on the left hand side of the page you'll see audio codecs, and immediately below it, codec packs. I'd suggest going for one of the codec packs (I use K-Lite codec pack myself), otherwise you may find yourself installing an individual audio codec pack and then find out that it's not the correct one.

you need a dvd decoder software or sound media cards.
