Technically you couldn't have Christians before Christ....as it refers to a follower of Christ.
Joshua worshiped the Captain of the Host....since he accepted his worship, it's generally believed that that was Jesus. (Angels never accepted worship) That was long before Jesus walked the earth.
His disciples didn't worship him before the Crucifixion because they really didn't know Him. After He rose from the dead, they understood. When the Holy Spirit came on them at Pentecost, they began witnessing to all the world. From there Christianity spread.

Jesus was the christ or the savior. In the old testament the prophets had many prophecies that would come true to characterize the savior or the christ. Jesus fulfilled all those prophecies in the old testament and it was recognized by many jews who became believers because it had been promised for so long. i think for a while his disciples did not have a true understanding of who he was but i do think they knew he was the savior, i believe eventually many knew that he was god, because there are times in the bible where jesus claims to be god and also when he appeared to thomas when he rose from the dead thomas proclaimed my lord and my god, he worshipped jesus as god. the jewish believers which made the first church went everywhere and started to spread the word of the savior which is in Jesus Christ who is god. we need a savior today friend , wont you accept him today.

No he was looked at as a prophet like john the baptist but never a god. Until some of the books were written ranging from 60 to 1000 years after his death. I personally am an atheist so I do not worship him. Knowone is really sure because the only historical record we have in him is in the bible. Which has been rewritten changed and many passages and books lost forever.

While Jesus lived, He was reveared as a teacher and healer. God's full glory was not revealed until after Christ died and rose from the dead. Christ was always fully man and fully God. There were people who showed him a worshipful reverence while He lived on the planet. Those He healed, forgave or cast demons out of would often kiss the hem of His robe or His feet; these types of actions are worshipful. There were a select few people who recognized Christ for what He was when He was here, and those people were very blessed.
Simon Peter is described as having fallen on his knees before Jesus in Luke 5: 5-9. See below.
I can't think of a direct statement of people worshipping Christ as God while He was here, but the Lord didn't come to the earth and put on a mantle of flesh to be worshiped. If Christ wanted to be worshipped, He could have stayed in Heaven where angels constantly sing of the glory of God.
Rather, Christ put on the mantle of flesh to be an example to us of the kind of relationship we are to have with God. More importantly, He came to sacrifice Himself to make it possible for us to be reconciled with God the Father. Blood is the only thing that can wash away sin, and before Christ came, the Jews sacrificed animals to cleanse themselves of sin. Christ continually offers his blood to cleanse us of our sins so we can have a direct and personal relationship with God (Father, Son and Holy Ghost).
There is nothing we can do to reunite ourselves with God or earn our way to Heaven. All we can do is accept we are sinners, that Christ took the punishment we deserve for sin, ask God to forgive us in Christ's name with honest, earnest sincerity, then make every effort possible to live as the Lord commands.

Thomas, after being reproved for his unbelief, when he saw the resurrected Christ, proclaimed this: "My Lord and My God!" (John 20:28)
On the resurrection morning, we read:
"Suddenly Jesus met them "Greetings" He said. They came to Him clasped His feet, and worshiped Him."
(Matthew 28:9)
Later, when appearing to the eleven in Galilee, it says:
"When they saw Him they worshiped Him, but some doubted." (Matthew 28:17)
