I don't understand how anyone can believe the Bible/Qu'ran/Torah etc and yet not accept the other texts as equally valid. None of them, in my opinion, have any more evidence than the others. Is it just personal preference? Culture?

With the exception of the differences between eastern and western religious texts. The differences between Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Taoism etc and Abrahamic religions is more distinct in morals and general beliefs than between each Abrahamic religion.

Why buy one type of car when there's hundreds of others available? - So you ARE saying that religious 'beliefs' are just personal preference?

You can't say 'because my religious text says it's right so I have to believe that' - EVERY religious text, pretty much, says that too. How would you know that yours is right except that it's the one you're familiar with?

I believe that belief in one holy book over another has primarily to do with the culture in which you grew up. If you were born in a country where Islam predominates then it is most likely that a person given to conservatism and belief in the status quo would be Muslim. Likewise if someone is born where Catholicism, Buddhism or Hinduism predominates.

However in places where the population becomes dependent on or dominated by another culture, the values and deities of that culture can begin to dominate there, as in Africa or Latin America.

On the other hand I also believe that when introduced to other religions or holy books people (when allowed to) adopt the ones that best reflect their own views and beliefs. I personally think that there is some wisdom and value in all of them if you are willing to see it.

I'm not exactly positive about this but from what I've seen and heard every religious text in the world contains some way on how humans can 'earn' their salvation. In the Bible the God came and gave the salvation to all who'd accept it. For one religious text to be different from all the others is weird. The way the Bible was made was different from every other religious text as well. And the Bible's central theme of love is different from every other religious text.

check out Deism. it somewhat is the theory God exists, granted reason to humanity, and that each little thing is supplied to function with our own selection and freedoms yet additionally reaping the magnificent thing approximately creation. As for religious texts, i'm a literary guy, so i think of you may desire to examine them in order that which you already know what's in them. you probably won't opt to stick to them yet possibly you could take concepts you like from diverse religious texts and create your individual philosophy.

We have leaders of cults who have been very successful in the way they speak and write.
There are "religious text" which were inspired by God and there are text called religious which were not inspired by God.
The question is: "Does this particular text bring me closer to God or is it there to glorify the creator of the text."

The Bible conflicts with every other religious text; everyone can't be right. Either God is who the Bible says he is, or he is something else. If you want to me to go further with this, email me.
