Fake owls may scare a bird for a few days but they get used to them quite fast, I've seen woodpeckers try and drill holes in them, and pigeons roost on them. try using some metallic paper strips, that blow in the wind these are much more effective. You may also try exluding the woodpecker by putting some mettal screening, plastic siding/ other material to cover the area where the woodpecker is drumming. Check the area right away to see if there is an insect problem, which is the likely cause of the woodpecker "attacking" your house. It's a little early for woodpeckers to be establishing territories but if that were the case the exclusion methods should work and in any event the drumming would only last for 6-8 weeks or so. Remember woodpeckers are protected under federal law and harming them in any way is illegal.

Hate to tell you this - - even though you have cedar siding, that woodpecker was going after food, they eat insects,
want to get rid of the woodpecker, get rid of your bugs, perhaps carpenter ants or maybe earwigs - I would try an exterminator.

I used to paint houses for a living, we had to deal a lot with cedar siding damage due to woodpeckers. If you are able to, a new coat of stain will ward them off for a few years, easily. (Assuming your budget allows for it right now.) It's the best way that I've heard of to help the entirety of the house. Good luck!

Fake owls do work very well being perceived as predators to birds that are prey to others. Good luck and I'm sure things will improve.

Is your cat really that lazy? I don't mean to kill it, but to scare it away.
