I'm installing SP2 on XP [YA, I AM BEHIND]... What does, "BACK UP YOUR SYSTEM" mean?

That means save everything that is important on your drive because it is possible the SP2 install could fail dramatically and you may have to reinstall windows.

just instal sp/2 dont worry about backing up the system its just a warning they put on there
