This is one of my biggest issues. LEGAL immigrants have learned some of the history of the United States. They often WANT to be a part of this great country and are welcomed - regardless of race or religion.
From what I have seen, illegal immigrants don't seem to care. They want to make the U.S. into Mexico and are incredibly intolerant of Americans.
Did their grandfather fight for the U.S. in WWII? Did their father fight in for the U.S. Viet Nam? Do they have a nephew fighting for the U.S. in Iraq? Has anyone in their family sacrificed ANYTHING to become an American citizen?
No. Not even willing to learn the language. Not even willing to carry the flag in a parade - or they'll carry it and then toss it on the ground after.
I would like to see civics coming back to the schools and see it taught from Kindergarten all the way through high school as required curriculum. That way, United States children, as well as illegals, can learn about national pride in the country they have chosen to call "home."

I think the illegal immigrants do not have a sense of America pride, and also some legal immigrants. It was evident on that fateful day last April when they protested in the streets.
Our government is failing us horribly when it comes to this and if this doesn't stop, true Americans will be the minority. Only people with common sense can see what is really happening to our Country. Of course, someone will make it a race issue. That is the ignorant ones way of disagreeing with you without a valid argument.

Be real, the US government (at least the Congressional branch) has ALWAYS been for sale to the highest bidder. From the war to foriegn policy to health care, immigration is no exception.

First of all America was founded on Immigrants. Some immigrants came voluntarily some involuntarily. But all seeking and fighting for freedom as individuals and as groups. All Americans seek pride in their selves and their country. All immigrants hope for a better life in America. To be a proud American is not a given,it's a value that has to be realized through respect for all Americans by Americans. We can look through history regarding different ethnic groups and the procedures took to become American, in every action you will not always find American pride. On many occasions Americans were put up for sale, on many occasions Americans have sold our souls for profit. Today we are trying to live differently. We are trying to carry American pride, in politics, in war, and in schools. Americans are voting to distinguish who has the right to be American. Somewhat ironic...I think. I understand illegal immigration is a serious problem, due to space, crime, and terrorism. Yes I do agree immigrants should follow the proper procedures to become a legal American citizen. Yes I agree all American citizens should take pride in our country, because living in it is a privilege not a right. Essentially all Americans are privileged and have no right to belittle the next man/woman's/families dream.

Here is an interesting article, Its long but I thought interesting http://towardfreedom.com/home/content/view/911/ But Most third world illegals come to the U.S. for personal economic reasons. Most do not come to cherish our democratic system. Many so called "immigration rights" groups "fan the fire" with their rhetoric which encourages immigrants to preserve their culture and language at tax payers expense. Among some of these groups, the word "assimilation" is considered xenophobic. When ultimately illegal immigrants and/or their children do become voting citizens, many vote in blocks (Mexican-American, El Salvadoran-American, Guatemalan-American, etc.), not for the good of America, but for personal economic gain usually at the expense of another group.

Sense of pride is seperate from Pride of legal entry. Wellwishers can be divided into those that have hidden agenda's that come only to rape this land and those who come to fortify it. The confusion exists between the genuine and the indifferent. This battle is allowed to be waged on this soil because tolerance and respect is not the goal-just a heartfelt surrender to the oil companys.

I don't think Americans even have a national sense of pride. That's what's wrong with this country. I worked at a university and was the only American out of about 20 people. Those people I worked with were more appreciative of the blessings Americans have than most Americans I know. They were grateful to be here and didn't take things for granted. They also had more pride in the work they did.
