Other fish do it, as well as Californians.

Mayo clinic and EPA say "no". But many Eastern cultures have consumed raw fish forever without much problem (and likely many benefits). Today, many fish are contaminated with toxins and are dangerous whether fresh or cooked. Usually, the bigger, longer-living, deep-water varieties should be avoided, as well as those from troubled bodies of water (areas of Great Lakes and small lake systems known to be polluted). However, some fish are just outright naturally toxic or poisinous and should be avoided altogether.

When eating raw fish, fresh is the key. Don't eat raw fish caught and removed from ocean hours and days ago unless you know it's been properly handled the every step it took to get it to your plate. You should not eat the skin and scales, nor any parts of the digestive tract system (stomach, bowel, etc). Eat only the fish meat itself. Generally, if you recognize the name of the fish as something you could order in a restaurant, you should be able to eat it raw if fresh.

If i was in the middle of the ocean, my biggest problem would be staying afloat, not eating. I see what you mean, though, and i guess that i would use my McGyver skills (I THINK I SPELLED IT WRONG) And command the fish to take me to shore, and not bother eating it.

there is no such thing as survival ethics. You do what you must to survive, such is the nature of man.

lol, i would't eat it uncooked, but like i said, some people do desperate things.

You eat the fish, they eat you, what's the difference. It's the liquids you'd need to survive. That is, you need to get fresh water because you will dehydrate long before you starve.

Hmmm...

Let's examine your options:

1: Eat possibly contaminated fish and run the risk of getting sick
2: Eat nothing and die

I think I'll go with 1

why ask? if its a survival thing you would do anything...if you dont eat then you die......what would you do? as far as me..i would eat the fish raw, dirty, whatever.....eating it is not the problem...catching it is..i might die of starvation trying to catch one.......if you wait till you get hungry...man you are in trouble.....

Sure! Just be careful of what you eat. The Japanese do it all the time, it's called sushi.
