This is a really good question:
There are 2 Los Angeles, The City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles County.
1. The City of Los Angeles "owns" the beach from El Segundo up to Santa Monica and from north of the City of Santa Monica up through the area called Pacific Palisades up to unincorporated Los Angeles County, and also a small portion of "beach" from Rancho Palos Verdes to Long Beach.
2. Los Angeles County "owns" a small stretch of beach land on the coast on both the northwest and southeast sides of the City of Malibu and the entire coast lines of the islands of Santa Catalina and San Clemente, except for that "owned" by the City of Avalon on Catalina Island.
So yes, there is a beach in Los Angeles, both the City and the County. And I am sure Angelenos reading this will be shocked to learn the none of the following are cities within the county but just general descriptions of areas of the City of L.A.---Venice, Venice Beach, and Pacific Palisades---LOL Even I learned something with this question---LOL---Yikes

Of course there are beaches in Los Angeles County. But if you're talking about the City of Los Angeles--not really. You'd have to drive.

Only cities on the westside or South Bay though. Like Malibu, Santa Monica, are beach communities in Los Angeles.

Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Huntington Beach, etc. are beach towns in the southwest part of Los Angeles.

Most other cities in Los Angeles, you have to drive 20-45 min. to get to the beach...

Jackie is mostly right, only Huntington is in Orange County, and Jackie forgot the most famous beach, Vennice, which has all the coolest (and weirdest) people on earth, as well as the outdoor gym (muscle beach) that you always see on TV and movies. Its where Arnold got built!

Technically speaking, no. The beaches are all in the cities west of LA. But it isn't far from downtown LA to Santa Monica.
