The tumor is on his back leg. It cannot be removed because it is in his muscle. It keeps getting bigger and he cannot walk on it anymore. He weighs about 160 and is 7 year old. We do not want to amputate. Any ideas on pain meds or how to reduce the size?

Did the vet give you any options for the dog? Surely there is something they can do. If amputation is the only option, dogs can get along well with 3 legs. I have even seen pix of dogs walkking on just 2 legs. Good luck with your dog.

Our older dog (the one in the background in the photo) gets these and when they were in places that they bothered her we had them removed. Most vets I've spoken to said they don't have to be removed unless they bother the dog or unless they change in any way (start growing more or faster,etc.). The needle biopsy was just probably the vet or the tech inserting a syringe and pulling out a small bit of liquid from the cyst and "hand" testing it to see if it was fat or something else. But, for surgery - yes they should do an actual biopsy at the time they remove it to see if there is anything else going on that needs to be addressed.

Call the ER and ask them if they have any ideas. Many times they will give you advice for your dog. A tumor is just like a persons so Im sure they have some ways to help you.
