I received notification that the IRS received my taxes...I e-filed. If there's a disagreement between my records and theirs, how long would it take for them to notify me that they need additional documentation? Again, they've received the taxes already...I'm just asking about it in case there's a disagreement.

If they need additional information to process your return the normal time frame is within 30 days of receipt of your return.

Depends on what the discrepancy is.
Your return might just get processed completely, then a year or two later you would get a notice letting you know there is unreported income on your return.

Sometimes, if it is something to do with claiming a dependent on your return that someone else has claimed, you and the other person that claimed the dependent will both undergo an audit. Sometimes it is an immediate audit that takes place, and you would be notified of what information/documentation you would need to send and how soon to send it.
Other times, it takes up to a year after you file to get notified of an audit.
You can ask further questions at the IRS tax law line: 1-800-829-1040 or, you can go online to: www.irs.gov

It could take a year or more. Letters for items left off of 2004 returns just went out in 2006.

That can be anywhere from a few days to years.
