My cat is 13 years old. She was in perfect health up until about 2 months ago when I noticed a sore on her tail that had a bad odor(necrose). We do not have any other cats, and she never goes outside. I took her to the vet, and he was not sure what had caused the wound. He cleaned and stitched the wound, and he put her on antibiotics. That didn't work, her skin around the area kept dying and the wound grew quite large. She wasn't eating, and lost about 2 pounds. She ended up having to have her tail amputated. After about a couple weeks she is doing better, and has gained some weight back and is even playing again. Two days ago, I was petting her and felt something beneath her fur on her hind leg. When I looked at it, the fur came loose with a thin layer of skin attached to it, and there was a quarter inch red looking sore on her skin where the fur had been. She also has a few bald spots that I have recently noticed. I am keeping an eye on the sore for now, but what do you guys think?

My 9 year old cat recently died of cancer. But, it wasn't what you are talking about. She had lump beneath her skin, inside her. They were just hard round lumps. They popped up all over her and there was nothing that they could do.

This could be another kind of cancer, but my cats cancer was totally inside her body, no sores.

You should really take her to the vet again. The vet doesn't know what happened to have to amputate her tail? That's kinda weird. You might take her to a different vet that can give you some answers.

Good luck and I truly hope your kitty doesn't have cancer.

Try bringing your cat in to see a Vet and have them run a cancer test on him or her whatever your cat may be. cause l have a 15 year old cat and he`s fine but l think my cat is blind in one of his eyes. he has a black spot in his eye but he`s still active and he runs all over the house. but he`s still our kitty. but lt could be that your cat might have cancer. have them like l said to you run some test on your cat just to see what could be wrong.

have her checked for parasites, cancer and i would recommend getting a new vet or take the cat to a specialist but it really sounds like a parasite or a skin eating fungus
