Think about how different your life was 5 years ago. Now consider how different it will be 5 years from now. Don't you think you'll both have moved on by then?
If he likes you, he'd be with you now. If he can't because he's doing 5-10 in the state pen, then you should be moving on, anyway.

If you're not married to him, I'd say five years is a long tome to wait. My thinking is you should go about your life and move on. If, in five years, he comes around and you are not attached, see how you feel. Chances are that in five years time you will be a different person, and will have grown beyond this....and him.

Tell him to write it and even that life continues, there are many situations people cant controll it is very difficult to put a date, or to say how many years someone will still love another person, maybe he has good intentions, but you should keep your life thinking about other people is your right

What he's telling you is "I'll try to find someone that i'll like better than u in 5 years & if & only if i fail, will i return to you as my last resort." if he wanted u, he would make his move now. dont fall for the st u p id lines. who is going to stay on hold for 5 years w/ false hopes?he's silly for even saying this to you. i assume u both are young.

..that all depends on where he is going. 5 years sounds like an awfully long time to be away. Depending on how close I was to him already and what the circumstances were, I would probably move on w/someone that I could associate with more.

5 years is a long time but do you truelly love him. like do you ever feel like you couldnt live without him? do you trust that he will come back for you? its a tough call that only you can make but to quote the girl next door "is the juice worth the squeeze?"
