Num 31:14-1814Moses became angry with the officers of the army, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, who had come from service in the war. 15Moses said to them, ‘Have you allowed all the women to live? 16These women here, on Balaam’s advice, made the Israelites act treacherously against the Lord in the affair of Peor, so that the plague came among the congregation of the Lord. 17Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known a man by sleeping with him. 18But all the young girls who have not known a man by sleeping with him, keep alive for yourselves.

God had ordered the israelites to kill the woman there, because they had sinned, and God was using the israelites to judge them.
This was a special situation, God was judging that nation

Still at it, eh? You're really on a bender today, trying to discredit Christianity (which bases its beliefs on the New Testament) with the Old Testament.

Again (and again and again, in your case), God knew what the Israelites were capable of as far as worshipping the false gods of surrounding nations, as is stated in verse 16. There could be no compromise in allowing those nations to corrupt His people.

By the way, you'd better be careful. If you do accidentally wander over to the New Testament, you might find that it changes your life. I'd hate to see you do all this work rummaging through the Old Testament, only to meet Jesus Christ and have to change your mind.

God created us creatures of free will. God wants us to obey him, because we see the wisdom in His ways and because we love Him. Moses was just a man and he was subject to the same kind of tempetation we all are. He didnt always make the right move at the right time sometimes he let his human nature rule him the same as Adam and Eve did in the Garden. God had a way of communicating with Moses to get him back on the right path. Moses as a man was angry at the women who tempted the Israelites, thus the same as many times he acted hastily, in the matter, but as a man of God he did not want to kill all of the young just the males so that they would not grow up to fight against them. read Deuteronomy 32-48-52 to see how the Lord communicated with Moses and told him that because he had tresspassed against Him he would not to get to go into the promised land but he must go up on Mount Nebo and view the promised land from there and that he would die there on the mountain. These things are all written down so that we can see the righteous judgement off the Lord. God allows us to go through things and tempetations so we can learn from our mistakes to follow Him more closely. There would be no fighting killing or wars were we all to read the whole Bible and take it seriously. as The Word says in Matthew 5- 43-44: "YOU HAVE HEARD THAT IT WAS SAID, YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AND HATE YOUR ENEMY.' "BUT I SAY TO YOU, LOVE YOUR ENEMIES, BLESS THOSE WHO CURSE YOU, DO GOOD TO THOSE WHO HATE YOU, AND PRAY FOR THOSE WHO SPITEFULLY USE YOU AND PERSECUTE YOU."

You think I'm going to take the bait and absolutize this bit of scripture? I believe in salvation history and in the development of Israel's notion of God. Notice that after the entrance into the "promised land", the prophets tell the Israelites to take care of the widow, the orphan, and the stranger (that is exactly those that earlier they thought they were supposed to slaughter). So, does it make me a bad Christian because I realize that Israel might have gotten it wrong in attributing these commands to God? I don't think so. Because faith is a journey and we grow into our understanding of God. It is not a monolyth that comes once and for all and all of a sudden. Next question.

God guided the prophets throughout the written word to work in His will. Gods Justice is shocking to those who lack understanding. A reading of the entire chapter will provide a better understanding.

Why don't you read it in context instead of picking an item that took you 10,000 sites to find and means absolutely nothing to you because you have no knowledge of what they are even talking about. You have no intelligent matter that could even comprehend what our FATHER has done for us. Turn on the TV (if you have one) and get ready for your sunday nite moovee.

The Lord knows everything and if he determined that some should die then so be it. We are his to do what he would like. Does a bowl in your cupboard have the right to complain what use it is put to?
