I submitted my US Passport last Monday (the 29th) and requested to have pages added to my valid passport. It was mailed to Washington DC. A few days after I mailed my presious passport away I found out that I was booked on a flight to Jamaica for business. I'm an athlete (cyclist) and will be working on a media project in Jamaica for a week. Question is: Can I fly to Jamaica and back without a passport? Or Can I have my passport expedited back to me in time for my flight from San Francisco on Thursday? Or..Should I go to the Passort agency in San Francisco without an appoinment and bring all necessary information to apply for a second passport if I can not obtain mine in time? I have contacted my local congressman for a plee efort to help, I've made arrangements to apply for a expedited service for a second passport but again, I do not have my first passport to send in with this application. What to do..What to do?

officially, a passport is required for air travel - i would contact the state department asap (see below) and keep working with your congressman:

I have no idea what you can do. I certainly would not apply for a second passport - the red tape may screw you up in the long run as you would have two valid passports. Why didn't you just expedite having more pages added? If you did it through a travel agency (The best way to do it), then call them and they will contact the broker who is handling the extra pages being added and maybe they can get it back for you with expedited fees. You definitely need your passport if you are flying given the new laws effective 1/27/07. Good luck...I think the lesson is always expedite any service you have done on your passport - visas, pages, anything!!!

If you hadn't sent in your passport, you would have been ok. Now the best thing to do is contact the passport office that has your passport. When I sent in my passport, it went to a processing office somewhere. I was surprised to actually talk to a live person when I called to check on the status. There is also a place on the passport agency website where you can check on the status of your application. I would suggest you get on the phone Monday and ask someone to pull up your application and expedite it.

if you're a US citizen, you could bypass the State branch information superhighway web site the position you'll hit upon a subheading "lost Passport". There you'll locate out what may be finished. different countries have similar web pages on the authorities branch that themes passports. good success

I'm not sure. You might be able to get it through the American embassy while in Jamaica. It's in Kingston.
