Washington Flyer is the bus service that will take you from Dulles to the metro (West Falls Church).
There is no direct bus to down town DC, but this is pretty quick and easy. The buses leave every half hour and West falls church is on the Orange line which will take you downtown.
The bus is $9 one way or $16 round trip
You just buy your tickets at the ticket counter by Door 4 near baggage claim.

the only bus service is provided by metro the 5a bus route and go's from the airport to the rosslyn and L'enFant plaza stations or take amtrak to dc those are only ways unless you drive or take a cab
DC is about 40 miles from dulles airport

Go to DC flyer, which is a cab service that can take you to either a metro station to take the train in to the city, or you can take a metro bus, but the train is better!!!

There is a shuttle that you can take from Dulles to one of the metro stops, I think East Falls Church. From there you can take the metro anywhere in the city.
