well it does give it a good flavor, because of the things you make in the mortar and pestle..like the flavor of fresh garlic, and onion, but i myself have made it with out it and used a fork and it was great. so i am sure it will be fine !!

To use a mortar and pestle does give a different taste to guacamole but this difference is so subtle that it is OK to do it with a fork. If you like your guacamole really smooth you can also do it in the food processor. A helpful tip: but the avocado seeds in the guacamole to prevent it from becoming brown quickly.

Hell, no, you don't need a mortar & pestle. I use a food processor to whiz together MOST of the ingredients, but I mash about one-third of the avocado with a fork, and then fold everything together. This way, there's still some nice little chunks in the finished product.

I just did this...literally minutes ago!

Absolutely, you can use a fork. In fact, most people I know prefer at least a few chunks in their guacamole rather than that smooth pounded stuff that looks questionable as a food. Just mash away and make sure your lime juice gets even around all the avocado and you should be good to go.

I don't even own a mortar and pestle. I make mine with a potato masher or sometimes the food processor. Still tastes like guac!

use a fork or other utensil to mash up the avocado. I've never seen guac made with a mortar and pestle

I would love to have your mortar and pestle, i have a tiny one :( Bashing up biscbuits for bases, crackers for crumbs, bash up the herbs and add a good lug of olive oil and you have a nice marinade. Size matters as you won't have bits falling out the sides. Enjoy!
