Ok I have a 1979 VW rabbit it is an automatic, gas engine. The outside needs a paint job but the inside is nice i think it has one little tear on the back side panel by the hatchdoor. It runs, great on gas.

well thank you all, i was not expecting it to be worth hardly anything, but just to clarify it is a 4 door car not a truck. Thank you for all those who replied with kindness.

probably around $600 to $900 dollars. my whole family are mechanics, and we have a rabbit, there are wonderful trucks especialy for taking corners well :) . if it runs fine and it doesnt have too much wrong with it cosmeticly than you could get quite a sum for it!

I just bought a 1976 vw rabbit off of a friend of mine and he has other later model rabbits in his collection as well but i know that the ones that are pre-78 round headlight models are worth a good amount to the vw crowd and enthusiest like myself. With yours being an automatic plus a square headlight model i dont think you could really get much for that car in no matter what condition its in. The manual 4-5 speed ones are much more fun to drive and fix up. With an automatic you cant do much to it as far as engine mods cause the torque conv is gonna kill most of the power anyway. Unfortunantly they dont make HP torque conv for any automatic vw's.

It sounds like this car is great shape, and it would be a great find to a V W collector. The Cars Blue Book wouldnt really be much help.. but if needed you could check it. They wouldn't give you that much money for it but it sounds like this car is a real rarity. Good Luck!
