Can they file them this year? Is there anything special they need to do? I am trying to file my friends' taxes online but I'm not sure if I can do this year and last year. Anybody have knowledge on this? Serious and knowledgeable answers only please.

You cannot file the 2005 return online, it must be mailed in. Only 2006 returns can be filed online.
You can access the forms needed for 2005 here

Yes, they can still file this year if they didn't file last year.

If they were required to file for 2005, or if they want to so they can get a refund, the return will have to be mailed, but they can still do it. Forms for prior years can be found on irs.gov.

See IRS.GOV. There may be a way to have last years forms sent to you.If your friend was owed a refund, you'll still get it with no penalty. If they owed taxes they may be subject to interest, penalties, and garnishment of wages, plus surrender of this years' refund
