It is definitely as American as apple pie! I actually watched a show on Food Network about the origins of chocolate making in the US, and Hershey's was the ONLY manufacturer of chocolate in the US for some time. So, when Mars (who makes M&Ms, etc) wanted to make candy bars, originally they had to buy the chocolate from Hershey's.

A Hershey's chocolate bar is an American classic: simple, elegant design and is easily recognizable as an American icon. Hershey's actually had a marketing campaign where they would just say that the Hershey's bar is an American classic, in order to compete with other candy.

Also, Hershey's bars reached icon status once they shipped rations of candy bars to soldiers serving in WWII. Of course, it wasn't the traditional bar we know, but once soldiers returned home, they stayed loyal to Hershey's.

All this about a candy bar! Check out Hershey's site--it will definitely help your project...Good Luck!

I do believe it too. It is real chocolate. Nestle's is kind of waxy...Ghiradelli is not good chocolate. Hershey is of German origin and German's know their chocolate. It's the best quality for the price. I once saw it being made...a pool of chocolate...I wanted to jump in. What a way to go....
Trivia: My mother went to Catholic School and they were forbidden to eat any Hershey...because of the war, etc.
