Is it really difficult to find jobs and are there any fashion design shools? And what is the average rent for a 1 bedroom apartment. What about the average sale price for a single house?

There is no such thing as an average sale price for a single house. that depends very much on which district you choose. If you move from Calgary to Victoria, you can expect daffodils in February, mild weather year round, and people who rush outside to watch snowflakes fall.
Victoria isn't a large place - you'd actually be better off in Vancouver for fashion design schools and for job finding.

yes it is harder to find a job in Victoria than in Calgary, but there are still lots of jobs here. And it is expensive to buy a house but rent is still not too expensive. I rent a 1 bedroom apt in Oak Bay (one of the nicer areas of the city) and pay $650 a month for a big place. I lived in Alberta last year and groceries are about the same here as they were there, but gas is a bit more expensive here. Victoria is a beautiful place and it has a few colleges, pacific design academy does art stuff but I'm not sure about fashion design. Camosun college might have some fashion design courses as well.

the sale price for a single house depends on the area you buy in, slummy areas such as esquimalt will average out alot cheaper than say oak bay, not sure about fashion schools but Google uvic or camoson college for contact info. rent is anywhere from 550 to over a grand again depending on the area desired and the amount of rooms needed.
i live on the mainland now and find food and rent alot more expensive over here so the island's prolly your best bet.
And Victoria is wonderful, from the flower count to the friendly people and the way it's so peaceful and relatively crime free compared to other city's I'm sure you'll love it :)
btw Fairways on the Gorge is the best and cheapest place to get your groceries, cheap and quality, gotta love it.

it is WAY HARDER to find a job in Victoria!

groceries are more expensive on the island
it is expensive to travel anywhere (you are stuck on that island)
in 2006 the average house price was $400 000 while Calgary avg was $347 000

but Victoria is incredibly beautiful
