I wonder if this would stop the awful actions of the priests. Do you think it would work?

Excellent question. It is logical that pedophilia would be reduced somewhat. And pedophilia among priests would drop off sharply.

Why? Because sexual deviants are attracted to the priesthood. And church-goers normally have extraordinary trust in their priests.

The priesthood attracts young men who are struggling with their alternate sexuality, such as homos and pedophiles. As teens, when they become painfully aware of their peculiar desires, which contradict all of their morals and everything they have been taught, some of them decide to deny their sexuality altogether by taking on the only socially acceptable role that is compatible with their oddity: celibate priest.

So if married heteros were allowed to be priests, then the priesthood would no longer be a refuge for sexual deviants. They might continue to be pedophiles, of course, but probably not in a position to have such trusted access to children.

Dear Mimi,

You bring up an excellent point. The truth of the matter, and you can check this out in the Bible, is that priests were married. Do you recall in the O.T. Aaron and Eleazer? In the N.T. we read that Zacharias (priest) was married to Elisabeth. They were the parents of John the Baptist Matthew 1). The catholic church brought in the teaching that their priests were to be celibate, which has brought tremendous harm on many youth who have been molested by these men. It also states very clearly in the Bible that any man that was to be a "Pastor" was required to be married with children (! Timothy 3). The catholic church has violated many of God's commandments.

I do not think it would help. Sin is sin and there are many temptations in the world today. If these same men (priests) married, they would only molest their children.
All sin is "awful" in Gods eyes.
The way we judge others, is the way God will judge us.
Pray for these men, do not condemn them. This is pleasing to God. Don't think for one moment, that all of us aren't filthy sinners. One is no better than the other.
Do everything out of love for God and people.
God Bless You....Peace.

100% NO
I can see how people came up with that theory but it is COMPLETELY ludicrous. It does not make any sense to suggest that the evil in that person would go away.
Basically, I believe that if someone has that evil in them, that perversion to do that, it's always in them. If they got married, it would not go away. In fact, when you think about it, if they would do that unmarried, if they got married and had kids, wouldn't that put their kids in danger?
Besides, if that were true, wouldn't there be a much larger case of molesting girls?

Can people just get off the who priest molestation thing? There are more non-priest chlid molestors out there anyhow. Just because a few priests made very bad decisions, doesn't men that all priests do.

That's like saying "do you think that if homosexuals didn't have sex, there wouldn't be AIDS" ... it's not a gay problem. It's a world problem. Let's deal with that and move on.

PS: yes I am an atheist defending priests!

No, marriage doesn't stop a pedophile. A pedophile (heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual), whose dominant or exclusive attraction is for children, is distinguished from a teleiophile (heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual) whose dominant or exclusive attraction is for adults.

Remember, heterosexual, homosexual and bisexual ACTUALLY only refer to the gender in which one is interested. When people use the word "heterosexual" or "homosexual" to describe a person, what they really mean, to get technical, is "heterosexual teleiophile" or "homosexual teleiophile".

NO person is a pedophile while also a teleiophile. Teleiophiles do molest children but VERY rarely. It is much more likely that these priests are pedophiles and cannot change this psychological wiring.

you're passing untruths for the fact. different denominations are in basic terms as accountable. The information are the comparable if no longer even slightly worse for different denominations--an they may be married as you're saying. they're additionally now flagrantly pushing homosexuality with their clergy being in brazenly gay relationships. it relatively is something the Catholic Church would not do.

I don't think so. It's not as though no married man has ever molested a child. Heck some of them molest their own children.

A sick person is a sick person regardless of marital 'benefits'.

That would then imply that married men never molest boys and that just isn't the case.
