My comp has a memory card reader built in so that I can get my digital pictures from my media card. My comp no longer recognizes that a media card was inserted (the light on the front should light up when it is recognized but it fails to do that) What do I need to do in order for the comp to recognize the card

First question - is the card reader compatible with the card you are trying to read? I guess the answer is 'yes' as it would appear from your question that you have been able to use it before. If so, I would suggest you go to Start>Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>System. That will open a tabbed box. Click on the tab 'Hardware' Click on that on on the page that appears you will see the words 'Device Manager' Click that open with the button and it will list all the hardware on your computer which will include the card reader. Right click on that and on the menu that opens you will see 'properties' Another box will ope. Half way down there is a blue title 'device status' It may say the device is working properly, but click the word 'troubleshoot' that also appears. You will just have to follow what that tells you to do. If you cannot find out from that, you may have to take your computer to be repaired.

If its USB, its no longer united states of america particular and could paintings effective. i'm contained in the united kingdom and USB is a international conventional. If it makes use of an AC powersupply, (which I doubt), you'd be wanting a 2 pin to three pin adapter. I doubt its a driving force challenge, yet when you're saying the computing gadget isn't recognizing it, perchance you ought to seek for for the most acceptable drivers on the information superhighway. frequently even with the actuality that with USB card readers 'it merely works'.

Is it a brand new disk? If it's brand new, you might have to format it.
