I'm not sure that much has gone wrong. Life seems to be thriving, people have secular, financial, personal, and spiritual awareness (although some have less success in these fields than others do.)
You want to see a planet where things went wrong? Try Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and all the other orbbiting bodies. Life really sucks out there.

Nothing went wrong. At least we aren't like Venus, that had the potential for life, but died because the Sun got too bright.

It all started when a bunch of australopithecines got a little full of themselves and started showing off to their friends by walking on their hind feet...
The competition hasn't stopped since. ;)

Nothing went wrong for Earth. God created Earth so that it would be cnot too close tot he sun and not too far. he created it with land to live on and water resources, seeing that all things need water to live. earth is solid, so we can live on it. There's enough gravity so we stay on the ground, but not too much so that it is difficult to move around
