Okay. So a few days ago my bf and I got into this argument and it turned into basically, a wrestling match. My dad walked in on it and called the cops, kept my boyfriend in jail for about 11 hours, and WAS going to put a restraining order on him but didnt want it to go on my bf's record because he wants to be a cop when he gets older. Well, last night I finally talked to my boyfriend again and my dad found out about it and is saying that he's going to put a restraining order on him NOW that he found out we talked. I am 17 and my bf is 18 but can he still do that? put a restraining order on somebody for something that happened days ago and has already been dealt with?

Mikeysco has it right. Your dad can (and should) get a restraining order against your bf. He can list himself as the primary and the rest of the family and the house as protected against him.
What you don't understand is your "bf" has a problem with violence. No matter what he told you when he called to make-up, normal men do not resort to violence in an argument with a female. It isn't the "one time" thing he's trying to tell you it is.
Thank God your Dad has his head screwed on straight, as opposed to all the do-nothing parents these days.

Since you are not emancipated as an adault, your dad controls the situation. Unfortunately your boyfriend will probably have no shot in law enforcement with this on his record. If a protective order comes through the line, that would be a real negative. If you have ever been convicted of a felony or a restraining order placed against you, you will not meet the requirements for about 99.9% of the agencies in the US.

Yes your father can swear out a Temporary restraining order (TRO) on your BF since you are still a minor and obviously are living on his property although he may be talking about a no trespass order. I don't know the details but physically fighting in an argument with your significant other is called a domestic disturbance and it's illegal. You and your BF better check into some counseling and be taught the proper way to argue without resorting to physical violence or you may both end up being charged next time. And yes if he has been convicted of any domestic violence crimes even a misdemeanor , under new federal guidlines he can not be a police officer.

I'm not a policeman, but I can tell you this. It's good that your B/F wants to be a cop, but his behavior might be the only thing that'll stop him from being one. The Academy makes their graduates take some form of aptitude test that will help them decide if these graduates can be public servants, I mean cops. so it all boils down to whether he'll pass the test or not with what already a past behavior your boyfriend had will put some weight on who they pick to do the job. Good enough, yes?

If he has been to court and paid fines, then your BF has been convicted of a crime and sentenced for it. As an adult criminal your Dad can certainly get a restraining order to keep him away from his minor daughter.
I should note that you are obviously NOT telling us the whole story because there was clearly a criminal conviction and your description of events does not sound like any sort of criminal conduct.

Whatever ticket he got from the actual incident will prevent him from becoming a cop anyway.
