I know that the UK has the NHS but how does it work in Australia. Do they have a system just the same or do you have to pay for medical treatments as you get them like the USA?

Australia has a national health system called Medicare. Many doctors will 'bulk bill' so u have no out of pocket expense and everyone has access to the public hospital system for free care. There are waiting lists in public hospitals for some surgery, but private care is available for those who can afford it.

Hi, Australia has an excellent medical system similar to NHS (although financially more healthy). It's called Medicare. You also have a number of private medical insurance options which can actually be good value teamed up with extras cover such as dental and physio. The link for Medicare is http://www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/. If you are travelling to Australia you will need a travel or working holiday visa. These can be gained online from http://www.visabureau.com/australia
