Hmmm... using a political humor site as reference... even a new low for you, erudite... not just your typical fabrications and lies.....

Maybe you realize a little problem we had with another whack-job country you seem to like so much in IRAN....

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaThe United States implemented a policy of support for Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq War as a counterbalance to post-revolutionary Iran. At various times, the support took the form of technological aid, intelligence, the sale of dual-use and military equipment, and direct involvement and warfare against Iran.

The United States was among several powerful countries that supported Iraq during the war, including Britain, France, the Soviet Union, and West Germany.

On 9 June, 1992, Ted Koppel reported on ABC's Nightline that "It is becoming increasingly clear that George Bush Sr., operating largely behind the scenes throughout the 1980s, initiated and supported much of the financing, intelligence, and military help that built Saddam's Iraq into [an aggressive power]" and "Reagan/Bush administrations permitted — and frequently encouraged — the flow of money, agricultural credits, dual-use technology, chemicals, and weapons to Iraq.”

Funny that we were not the only ones worried about a military victory for Iran in the middle east.... and hard to know the future for Saddam at that time as well... but one thing for certain is that it was known Saddam was not a good leader, a true ally, or a person to be trusted.... the primary concern WAS preventing an evil country such as Iran from EXPANDING...

Maybe you should understand a little about true history, erudite... but I can understand how you are so busy with keeping your little mind occupied with all the lies and fabrications you have to come up with for your typical questions on here....

The U.S. has always reached out to its enemies and tried to make friends. Nixon did this with a virulently Communist China. Reagan did this with the USSR.

Back in the early 1980's we were still engaged in a bittle struggle with Communist Russia, which was growingly alarmingly powerful. They had gained huge new territory all over the world. Significant parts of Africa turned Communist, and even more troubling, Central America was falling to Communism, with South America not too far behind.

So, we had to make a deal with the devil. At least Saddam was anti-Communist.

Now we are trying to put things right. So, I trust you will help us do that instead of sabotaging our efforts, am I right?

Because Iraq and Iran were fighting, and the U.S. took Iraq's side. During that time there was tension between Iran and the U.S. especially after the Iranian hostage crisis.
