I was just wondering if anyone is actually dumb enough to believe that vets actually care about your pet's, and not the Money they make treating them.
If they honestly cared they would not turn away a dieing cat. I once had a pregnant Cat who was haveing a very tough time delivering.
I called the only 24hr clinic around me only to have them say she is dieing and I have to rush her in ASAP. But that they won't even look at her without a $1000 deposit.
She is aparently dying and the only thing they cared about was the money. They wouldn't even take a check, or would not allow me to make payments.
$1000 cash or your cat dies
Very Nice Eh.......
I am just lucky she pushed out the kitten's in the car on the way!!
And was perfectly fine after.
she had 3 kittens

No I am Not Stupid enough to Breed cats and not be able to provide emergency help. AS I SAID I WAS ON MY WAY TO THE CLINIC A**Hole
I just think it is sick that they would not even look at her without the Cash up front.
Time was of the essence so the extra 15 mins to go to a bank machine could have cost my cat her life

I find that newly qualified vets are more interested in helping you, after a few years, they can get bored and tend to recommend unecessary, expensive treatments as a way to make money.
I think you have to go on your "gut" instinct - the way the vet talks to/touches your pet, tells you an awful lot.

Unfortunately vets are faced with these types of situations all the time. Vets DO care about their patients. I'm sure the vet in question was quite disgusted with you for breeding your cat and then not being responsible enough to make sure you could afford potential emergency care. An emergency c-section is a surgical procedure. And it does cost close to $1000. You have anesthesia, radiographs, emergency personnel, monitoring and aftercare. There are costs associated with this. Do you have any idea how expensive sonogram equipment is? Xray equipment? How about malpractice insurance? And there's rent and salaries of the employees of the vet practice. Most vets are not wealthy like human physicians. On the contrary. They take charity cases ALL THE TIME. But they are not going to do so indiscriminately. If you brought in a stray cat off the street that was suffering through kitten birth, I would bet the farm you'd have encountered a different situation. Don't be so hard on the vets. You have no idea the suffering they see and the irresponsible pet owners they deal with on a daily basis.

Bye the sounds of this emergency animal care clinic. I would have to say that no, they didn't care.......About their animals that is. They sound like they were pretty cold and uncaring people, for sure. I worked for quite a few years in an animal hospital which had 3 doctors in it. You couldn't find any more loving and compassionate people to be caring for animals than these guys. I saw one of the doctors put down a Dalmatian and actually cry after he did it. Now, to me that is compassion. It's sad tho that many of them are in this type of business just for the money. It wasn't right nor was it fair to you that they had to have that much money up front, in cash before they would even look at your cat. I am so happy tho that your cat made it and that her kittens were fine too. At least you have a very happy ending to your experience.

I am sorry you've had a bad experience. My mother is a vet, and I can tell you from personal experience that she is not in it for the money (vets do not make as much as you'd think). My mom went back to school to be a vet and she loves every animal she comes across. She cries with her clients when the pet dies, and she celebrates with them when they live or give birth. She adopts the unclaimed ones, and fosters the found ones. She attends every continuing education class she can. Unfortunately, as with every profession, there are the few that ruin it for everyone else. I hope maybe next time you can find a vet that cares about your pet.

Most vets do care for the animals but they also get sick and tired of owners who don't pay etc. They have to run a business and if everyone that came in said they couldn't pay then there would be no vet clinics for you to go to. When you go to an emergency clinc you are going to pay high prices for convienence. Sorry but that is the way it is

Sorry but you are using the wrong vet. When we were short of cash my vets let me run up a 600 euro bill, we didn't pay them anything for a year. When they had to put our cat down who they had been treating for a long term illness all the vets who were in at the time came in to see him. We have one cat who's an absolute demon to one of the vets. He still makes a point of coming to say hello to her even when he's not treating her.
Yep, you definitely need to change vets.

i think that if your a vet you need to care about animals. Some are only in it for the money. some like Barbaros vet really care about there Job. I want to become a vet, and i really love animals. If the vets didnt care abut what there doing, then they need to find a nother job. If there a vet, and dont care about animals, and got into a vetrinarian college, they wasted there money, and someones spot at the college.
Good question!

Some vets do and some don't. I know mine does!!!!! There has been a few times I took my dogs in to see her and she didn't charge me a dime. One courtesy she provides to her pet clients is if the dog is dying and needs to be euthanized she does it with no charge. I know this to be a fact since she euthanized two dogs for me. She said it is the least she can do for both the human and animal clients!! I think this vet is extraordinary!!! I DO know there are vets in this world that simply make all the $$$$$$ they can from the love a person has for their pet and that is sick!!!!

Depends on the vet, sounds like you got a bad one. I can't imagine going to vet school and not caring about animals, doesn't make sense to me. Our vet cares because she will even do a free visit if you can't afford it and your animal needs seen right away.

First of all get your cat spayed. Maybe then you won't have to worry about her dying while trying to give birth! There are enough unwanted pets in this world. The vet wanted a deposit to insure that you weren't just gonna get your cat fixed & bail w/ out paying. That's what most vets do. They care about the animals or they wouldn't have gone to college for 8 years to get into the business. GET OVER IT!!!!
