A relatively progressive Christian denomination. Presbyterians that are part of the Presbyterian Church - USA allow gays to be involved in their congregations as Sunday school teachers, committee members or worship leader, they just can't be ordained as ministers, elders or deacons. Presbyterians also allow any baptized person to take communion. PC-USA allows for drinking in moderation and, like most other Christian denominations, silent confession rather than confessing to a priest.

One of the unique things about Presbyterian churches versus other similar denomations such as Methodist is the way the church is governed. In a Methodist church, the people above the minister (similar to a cardinal in the Catholic church, but don't know what they're called) decide what church a minister will serve and for how long. In general, congregations have less control. In the Presbyterian church, there is a governing board of people from that congregation called the session and they choose a pastor and make other decisions about the property and the direction of the church.

Correction to poster below me, as I said above, anyone baptized in another Protestant or Catholic type church can take communion with Presbyterians.

Calvinist, "covenantal" theology. They baptize infants as a replacement for Old Testament circumcision. I think they hold closed communion, i.e. membership only. Good stuff.

A Christian religion. I am one, and we believe that once you are a Christian, you can never stop being one.
