Many dogs can do fine as outdoor dogs as long as they are provided a proper shelter, where they can get out of the cold and wind chills. My brother in law actually built a small pen inside his garage with a doggie door for access for his dog. So the dog had a good place to get out of the elements as needed, but the pen inside the garage prevented the dog from running loose and getting into trouble.

personally, i never understand people who have animals - only to leave them outside, alone, and cold. Whats the point? Does it give you satisfaction to know that you HAVE a dog, and to maybe glance at it through the window occasionally? Ask yourself if you have a dog for a companion, and for enjoyment. If so, i suggest you could get more out of the relationship if you bring the dog inside where it can BE a companion. Would you like to be tied or in a cage, in someones yard, alone, while the rest of the family was inside... Just something to think about. Do the right thing.

Although the breed is equipped to survive in sub zero temperatures, I don't think that means for prolonged periods of time. I would make sure your garage is available with plenty of bedding and food - unless your significant other wants to trade places with your dog? Or better yet, ditch the SO, and let your dog into the house where he belongs!

Oh my gosh! You should put your significant other outside and see how she likes it! It is absolutely unacceptable to leave a dog outside without shelter. In fact, IT'S AGAINST THE LAW. And in Minnesota with common subzero temperatures, it's down right cruel. Newfies are such a beautiful and loyal breed. How could you isolate your best friend like that? The likelihood of your significant other being as faithful and loyal to you as your dog are slim to none. Your dog is your family too and belongs with you. If your significant other cannot accept this, you need to find another significant other. Compassion and compromis are important qualities to look for in a partner...your partner has neither! Good luck to you and your doggy.

I have a few questions for you. Who was first the dog or her? You would send your best friend into sub zero weather for her? She is still with you why? For Dogs sake get some balls and bring your best friend back into the house. Tell her that your dog is as important to you as she is and she needs to just deal.

u should really bring him in the house or at least the garage. especially with these cold below 0 temps we have been having. especially bring him in if he starts shivering. those r the first stages of hypothermia.

No...they deserve better. If u really have to put the dog out then at least put a jacket (doggie sized) on it.
