I do. I enlisted in the Navy in 1993, and I was also lied to by the Job detailer at the Los Angeles MEPS station, who told me I could cross rate after 18 months. Which was a total lie, I was stuck in a rate I admittely told them I didn't want to be in, but when he said "everyone cross rates, don't worry" I fell for it. I would have been better off going to college and not being an Ship's Serviceman for 3 1/2 years. I
I lost my family, friends, a future because of these amoral people.

I only regret not staying in. I got our after 4 yrs and I wish I was still in. My army infantry days had some terrible moments of freezing and being hungry etc, but those things make you harder and make life easier. Recruiters do lie . YOu have to do your homework, but they have a job to do.

Do you always feel bad about it? Are there any days you like being in? Up to this point your experience in the AF has been restrictive and mostly a "I say, you do" type of interaction. Luckily though this is not how things will be after graduation. I won't chastise you to suck it up and press on, but just keep your head down, do what you need to in order to graduate and things will get a lot better. The military isn't for everybody, but in your case I'm sure you're just sick of the training routine. Oh and P.S. you're not the first to feel this way. I knew a lot of troops when I went through tech school that were in the same boat. Then they got orders that were for Germany or Japan and all of a sudden they loved the AF!

I was in the service for four years and regretted my decision to join the moment I stepped off the plane...a few years later I regretted that I hadn't stayed. My dad once had a cow who would break out of the fence on a daily basis...I used to chase that cow about a quarter mile down the road to get her back in the pen. I would tell my dad what I had done to "save" his precious and he would simply laugh. Finally I asked him what was so funny and his reply was..."That damn cow can't decide which side of the fence has the greenest grass but she has always known that she loves grain and the only place she can get it is at the barn during milking....she will be back to get the grain"

Fifteen years ago and you're still hung up on this?

Yeah, you should have checked around a little bit. Anyone who's been in will tell you not to believe anything that's not in writing.

They wanted me to be a GM, and I wanted EW. They said that would be oh-so-tough. I said fine, call me when it opens up, and I got a call three days later. You just have to work it out on your own.

Sorry, but yep, there are liars in the world. I hope you made the most of it that you could though, and had a good time here or there. I did.

Well, since I never enlisted, I guess the answer would have to be "NO".

I was, however, an Officer in the U.S. Army for 28 years until I retired. So, do I regret being in the Military? Again, the answer is a resounding NO.

Did the military change my life -- absolutely. Stop trying to blame them for your own foolishness and naivete.

Sounds like you just need to get on with your life and get over something that was obviously a bad match FOR YOU. For others, it is a good choice. Let it lie and move on with putting your life back together now. Bitterness will just eat away at you. Lesson learned.

Not at all. I am retired and spent 23 years on submarines in the Navy and loved every minute of it. My only regret is that I can't do it all over again.

Absolutely not. I served 14 years in the Marine Corps and would have made it 20 had I not had physical injuries from the Vietnam War to prevent me from doing so.

The best thing I ever did...

Aside from marrying my wife and having 3 children

What are amoral people?
Maybe you never learned how to speak up for yourself rather than just complaining.
Maybe your making this up.
Why did you lose your family, friends and future, because you are lazy, a whiner and someone with no goals in life? hmmmm???
