1) PAck as much as you can in your check in baggage, the less you take on board the better.
2) You are only allowed 1 item of hand baggage and it needs to fit in a small cradle to ensure it isnt too big
3) You are only allowed 100mls of liquid in each container, even if they are only partially full, but this should be ok for most make up - mascara, lip gloss etc. They need to be in a see through plastic bag - they will give you one before security at the airport. Other than that just nothing sharp - oh and no lighters.
The baa website is a good one for up to the miunte info as it does change from time to time depending on levels of threat etc however, has been at the current level for a while now.
Hope you have a good trip!

Yes they now allow a certain amount of liquid in hand luggage. Check out this link for the latest info:
http://heathrowairport.com/
Across the top of the page is a row of buttons, click the one marked Airport Information. On the new page, down the left side is another row of buttons, click Security Control; the info you need is here.
Woulda given you a direct link, but the page address was longer than I typed here (LOL)

well, enventhough i did not have a nice time in Heathrow. i guess i can help!.
basically, try and AVOID BRINGGING ANY LIQUID!
but you can, the max is 100ml.
just bring your nessesities. toothpaste and maybe a SMALL bottle of perfume.
do not buy/bring any sort of water container. they are always over the limit.
you want a hassle free trip therefore, like i say, avoid all liqiud unless YOU REALLY need it.
you normally dont anyways. the reason for me saying that is sometimes the security has been working to hard and they get cranky. the will take it out on you. =P.
and they are allowed to do so. especially in Heathrow. where there are so many people.

You can take upto a total volume of 1litre of liquids into the cabin provided they are in bottles of no more than 100ml each and kept in a resealable clear plastic bag, itself of no more than 1 litre capacity.
To be honest it is easier and less stressful to pack all your liquids in your hold luggage.
You can take duty free purchases on board as they are cleared through security before you buy them. However, be careful if you are going to be in transit as if you are coming in from outside the EU you will not be able to take them onto your second or subsequent flight.
There is more information available from BAA, the airlines and from your travel agent.
Most of all don't worry about it and enjoy your holiday.
