Actually God does speak to people but not in actual words. God can speak to people through meditation and prayer. He can speak through the words of other people. Sometimes you just feel it in your heart. I think that is the way that God spoke to people in the Bible as well; with the possible exception of the burning bush and Mount Sinai.

God does speak to people today. Many people hear the voice of God, even in todays modern era. All the sin in the world, cannot keep God from speaking. If you are struggling to hear Gods voice, try being still before Him sometime. Find a quiet place, meet Him in prayer and make sure you have no unconfessed sin in your heart. God is always speaking, through His spirit, or through ours. Learning to listen and hear Him is the greatest thing one can ever know or do.
God Bless You....Peace.

God has never spoken to people, and he never will nor did he speak to people in the old testament, it really was mans imagination back then, a little thunder there, and a little fire here, man has a powerful mind, and man back then could literally say anything and it would certainly become Gospel, unfortunately it has become his own demise without any truth or factual evidence behind it.

So something you've read about in a book doesn't happen in real life.

I wonder what could account for it?

You know, come to think about it, spider-man doesn't battle villains in the skies of new york any more. That probably means that something made him stop, right?

I really feel there's another explanation staring me in the face, but I can't seem to find it.

In those times, they only had a portion of the written Word of God, we have the completed work. Therefore, it is not necessary for God to "speak" to us now, since we have all we need in his word. (2 Tim 3:16,17 - All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work)

We speak to him in prayer, he speaks to us when we read his word.

Dear Mj,

God speaks to us today but through the Bible. God is God! His word is eternal and it is law. If God added to His word today, He would break the commandment in Revelation 22:18, 19. Therefore, you know that anyone who says that "God spoke to him, or gave a vision, or told him to tell people something in tongues" is a liar.

One reason is simply because we are too busy to be still long enough to hear Him. He is talking to us all the time. "Be still and know that I am God." Psalms 46:10

Afterthe Mosaical age, God quit speaking to men directly. After the Bible was completed, there was no need for Him to speak directly to us because all we need to know is written therein.
