Do you have any examples of Christians who try and fit the Bible onto realilty? For instance, on one question about Dinosaurs and God, some guy answered that in the Bible it mentions dinosaurs: it states "large creatures" so "obviously it meant dinosaurs". You see what I mean? It's like, "well since we don't know we'll say that large creatures meant dinosaurs". I'm just wondering if anyone else has any examples of Christians doing this with the Bible. The Bible seems so malleable, right?

I have a really good example of a belief of one Christian:

My best friend (I have to pardon her undeniable ignorance) once told me that if God didn't exist, she would believe in God even if it were a hoax, because she cannot imagine there not ever being a God or an afterlife.

***sigh***

I am only relieved that my brain doesn't needlessly suffer through endless mental gymnastics the way her's has for the last 15 years...she's a convert.

***another sigh***

Another literalist Christian told me that the Great Flood was responsible for burying the bones of the dinosaurs. Hmmmm...
Another convert....now for 30+ years.

Is there enough room for another sigh?

My sister told me today that she believes in Evolution and thinks that god started it all but evolution is just the way he got us here. She also said that she doesn't believe everything the bible says.

My ex-brother in law is taking my nephew to church every Sunday and we're both worried that he's going to make my nephew a zealot. My sister says she doesn't mind if he goes to church so long as he doesn't take everything at its word.

I felt obligated to warn her to watch his education because no child should ever grow up thinking science says that we came from monkeys.

So, I suppose in a way she does try to but she's more agnostic than anything else.

It was a rather strange conversation that I kind of walked in on her and my grandmother having. Unexpected too.

Well, a certain person (let's just call him Maurice, never mind the first letter of his last name) emailed me this proof of god's existence:

God says He has no beggining & no end;hmm, space seems to be endless and there doesnt seem to be any particular point that it starts

Also; planets are spherical;a sphere is the only shape that has no end in any direction(the only thing you could argue maybe is outwards;but othewise it doesnt end in any direction).

God claims to have many mysteries we dont know yet:I think and surely you agree, that a black hole illistrates this quite well.we see the black hole and guess about it;but we really dont know what it contains

God says we(intelligent life)are to conform to Him and His commandments;not Him to us.This is shown by the planets that conform to the suns gravity and revolve aroud it;not the sun around the planets.

God doesnt let us see Him,but there's evidence-we dont see air but theres evidence of it,we dont see gases and othe elements but w see the evidence of what they do.

God claims to have three parts(Father,Son[Jesus],Holy spirit),Elements have 3 states:solid, liquid, gas

God doesnt go back-Lot's wife turned to pillar of salt;so also it is frictionless in space making it impossible(or at least very hard) to go back.

Have you ever read a Bible? A Bible is a handbook for SALVATION and PEACE. It is not a Jurassic Park Adventure, or nor does it attempt to be. If you want to read about dinosaurs, it is under a different Dewey Decimal.

Have you seen the stuff they're trying to do at the grand canyon? Trying to twist geology to fit the bible and the 6000 year-old earth theory. It's a bit of a reversal of your question, but it is a good example of how things get twisted to suit their needs.

The Bible mentions "leviathan".

"Science" has also been quite flakey. Even Stephen Hawking said that for thirty years he was wrong about one of his MAJOR theories.

IMHO - his explanation was flakey also.

too many to list pumpkin - "the more you have to lie to make things fit the more bizarre the lies get."

hey, this rhymes "the more you have to lie to make things fit the more bizarre the lies get." I'll have to remember that.

Sure. Apparently, the bible said that the Earth is round because it mentions 'the circle of the Earth' - but a circle is flat. A sphere is round. Also, the bible apparently predicts big bang theory as well - because genesis stars with 'in the beginning'.

There's a lot of them out there.
