Of course you'e worried, and you have every right to be.

However, you can't force anyone to change anything about themselves. All that you can do is to continue to express your concern, and tell him that you want him around to see and play with his granchildren.

What you need to do is get your dad to the doctors! Tell him that everyone needs an annual physical exam and that he is overdue.
Try to talk to your dad about this when he appears for open conversation and give him much encouragement. Tell him that you love him and would like to be certain that he will be around for a long time. Explain to him that a physical is very important and that everyone should have one annually especially where he is on the Atkins Diet. I can't say what's wrong with your Dad, and neither can anyone else, however let the doctor be in charge of that. I will tell you that the Atkins Diet is not healthy at all and may cause high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and a other health issues. Anyone on the Atkins Diet needs to be monitored as that is not a well-balanced diet at all. So please emphasize to your dad the importance of a complete check-up and explain to him that if he doesn't go to the doctors he won't feel any better. Good Luck!

250lbs for a 5'11 guy is not necessarily "way" overweight; however, he should get a basic blood checkup for diabetes and cholesterol, and blood pressure. If he has high cholesterol, there are many safe drugs out there than can make a huge difference in the way he feels on a daily basis.

Some people have a blocked septic tank and eating more meat or foods that are harder to digest clogs up the tank more.

If he is currently constipated he really shouldn't start Atkins.

Personally, I would suggest anyone who wants to go on any diet to start off with a cleansing liquid diet for about three days. Doing it on the weekends are the best.

Buy frozen berries, pineapples, prune juice with fiber, probiotic yogurt, grapefruit or orange juice with lots of pulp, strawberry sorbet. Blend them all together. Drink three times per day.

This will give them a boost on antioxidants that they've probably been missing for a long time and cleanse their system of undigested rotting material.

He needs to see a doctor above anything else.

If he is doing Atkins, and it was day 3 he could have the "Induction Flu' it is your body responding to the toxins leaving your body. He should be getting at least 20 grams of carbs each day and not starving himself. Does he have the DANDR book? Lots of people claim to be "doing" Atkins and really have no idea what they are doing because they never read the book!

Most men are just like your Dad....in denial that there's something medically wrong and fear going to the doctor. Or they think that they're too "macho" to go to the doctor.

Unfortantely, all you can do is be there for him. Maybe get some literature for him to read (this may make him more upset though) about sleep apnea and poor diet. It has to be HIS decision to do something about it.

Men are the worst for getting them to go to the doctor. No offence to any other males out there but it is true. I don't know how old u are but you could make an appointment for him, then just announce to him hey I made an appointment for you dad. LOL!! If you know how to drive you could talk him into going on a 'surprise trip" with you and low and behold the surprise is the doctors visit. LOL!!
Hope this helps

Bless

You are right to worry about your dad but YOU can do nothing about his health only HE can change his habits. I think the heart attack or stroke that is heading his way may make him look at things a little differently.

Yes, possibly his blood sugar level was low.
A lot of people loooove atkins, but it isn't for everyone.

You are so sweet for thinking about dad....he is a lucky guy.

In his situation he shouldn't go on a diet by himself but rather ask a dietitian if not a doctor.
