I am a guy and a nerd (to put it bluntly). I was also a "late bloomer" (was 17 before I even thought about girls that way). I'm 19 now (in college), but am very uncomfortable around flirtateous girls. I get made fun of for this quite a bit. Is this discomfort normal?

you are just one in a blue moon. you are just late at everything relationship wise and that is ok. be glad, you've missed a lot of heart ache and bs. i know a doctor that actually did not date any girl until his sophomore year in college. so relax. you are actually lucky, i think. don't you? be careful now, don't jump into any relationship or situation just because you want to prove you are a "man". let it happen naturally. the girl that gets you, will get a refreshingly raw relationship that has been untouched by bitter breakups. good luck!

My...boyfriend XD hehehehe (im not even sure if we are that or not) used to be uncomforable like that. He gets easily embarassed when girls are flirty. The fun thing is that im really shy too and somehow we managed to click perfectly fine. Now he is not embarassed when I flirt with him, but when strangers do he blushes a lot and changes the subject.
Dont worry, being shy is not a sin, you just have to find someone that will not make you feel uncomfortable, it will happen. Besides, many girls think its cute ^__^

It's normal for nerds to be uncomfortable around girls.

It's chicken and egg - they see you are nervous and make fun, and you are nervous because you think they will make fun. Break the circle and stop being a nerd.

I would say so, when it comes to flirtatious girls, that is what they do. So you should expect them to make fun of you, but I wouldn't take it the wrong way.
