I've been wearing glasses for 7 years and it seems that whenever i go to the doctor to get stronger glasses, my vision worsens. so instead i stopped going to doc and i just wear my old glasses and my vision hasn't worsened.

No.

Not wearing the right glasses or no glasses at all will worsen them.

I am myopic and I have personally experienced this. Your eyes will keep changing whether you change your lenses or not; not for the better either. I have needed glasses since I was 9. I'm 44 now.

You may not notice it now, but your eyes are gradually changing and soon you'll need new lenses. Mine did.
Your vision changes every two years or so.

Also, always go to the eye doctor. Best to see an Ophthalmologist. They check all things medical and refract your eyes. You could develop medical problems that are not noticeable until it is too late (glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts to name a few).

It takes time to get used to a new perscription so feeling dizzy when you first get new glasses is fairly normal. Your vision worsening is another matter. There are 2 things in play here. The first is that once you get used to clear vision you notice very much more that your vision isn't clear without glasses and its also more difficult to cope so you feel your vision is worsening. This is just a matter of perception and does not mean your vision is worsening. You couldn't be certain it is worse until you have another eye test and your perscription is strengthened. The second thing is that vision can and does worsen naturally. There is no evidence that glasses make your eyesight worse and if you think about it how would that happen? Poor eyesight is mainly about your eyeball being a less than perfect shape and there is no real way that wearing glasses woudl affect that. I wouldn't go back to teh optometrist unless I had problems seeing things with my glasses on - that is the real sign your vision is worsening. You might also like to consider contacts if you need glasses all the time.

How do you know that your vision has not become worse if you are not going for check ups? Unfortunately it gets worse with age.Your eyes will compensate but you will be straining may result in more headaches so go do the right thing better for your health. Glasses make it easier to see easier to read. You can have lazer surgery which will correct short sight It is very quick (about 1 hour) only painful for a day lovely and comfortable not wearing glasses the only draw back is the cost but well worth it and you do save on glasses are more comfortable and look better

I did have an eye doctor (optometrist) tell me you shouldn't get glasses unless you really need them. He said your eyes can get weaker if you depend on glasses when you don't really need them.
However, if you're going to the doctor for stronger glasses, your vision might be getting worse anyway--sounds like a "chicken or the egg" thing.
If you think your vision is good enough to do your work and hobbies, then it's probably okay to keep the glasses you have.
I just got new glasses, but I was having trouble reading--I had to use a magnifying glass along with my glasses and I was getting tired of that.

Some claim that wearing glasses makes your eyes weaken because they do not have to strain to see, so they get lazy. I have worn glasses since I was 5 years old, but my perscription hasn't changed in the last 15 years so I do not know that I buy into that claim.

Of course your prescription changes...your body changes every year...why does it surprise you that your eyes change as well. You should go to the doctor at least once a year to have your eyes examined. Just as you should get a physical every year. You could be actually damaging your eyes by not having the correct glasses and straining them unnecessarily.

If it works for you, that's all that matters. I wear my reading glasses in the house all the time, but when I go out, I put on my distance glasses.

Sometimes, I even forget to put my glasses on!!
