ok, so here's the thing: i was recently told, "you're hysterical and boys don't like that. that's why you haven't found someone you want to be with yet." it came from a good (guy) friend of mine. he explained to me that he meant that my sense of humor can sometimes be intimidating to guys because it shows that i am completely independent and not needing a guy. "they see you as one of the guys cause you can go toe to toe with them," he told me. he said guys don't usually go for the girl who is outspoken and bold, but more for the girl who is shy and quiet because she is easier to approach. (he tried to smooth his comment over by saying that the "right" guy won't care and will value my personality traits rather than be afraid of them, and guys who find me intimidating are weak and should be tossed aside anyway.) so i just want to see what other people think about this. is there something wrong with being funny and a girl at the same time?

A sense of humor usually requires some degree of intelligence. Some men find intelligent women intimidating. It's not the humor, it's tthe fact that you might be smarter than some of them and they can't handle it.

There is nothing wrong with a girl with a sense of humor. The problem is when they think they are funny and they are not. You probably know guys like that, too.

Humor shows that your independent and don't need a guy? Humor? That sure does not sound right(but it does sound funny). Plenty of guys have no problem with outspoken and bold...only the weak guys want a shy quiet girl. It's true there are guys who can't handle a bold girl, but that's true with everything.(and look that is just what your guy pal said too).

There is nothing wrong with being a funny girl.

Go for it there is nothing wrong with being , funny ,bold ,
outspoken ,standing up to anyone , intimidating, straight forward, There is a time that you need to be a women laid back, quiet ,with that smile of confidence, eye contact & smile you don't have to say a word. Sometime it nice to let others have center stages , Not always the life of the party, But that means letting your guard down a little .that will take practice, You will see the difference .I know iam that way myself . Have Fun I do

Absolutely not. A sense of humour might be intimidating, but shyness is just plain annoying. On the larger scale, guys will appreciate your wit. Even if the ones you know now don't, there's no virtue in dumbing yourself down for their sake. As an aside, when I became more outspoken, I got a lot more positive attention from all sides.

Been there, done that. And your friend is right, partially. Guys can find girls like this intimidating. The right guy will be secure enough with himself to love you for you, funny and all. And your friend is just trying to help, honesty sometimes hurt, sounds like a good friend.

No, but you have to realize...your guy friend is telling you his opinion (which I happen to agree with) from a male point of view. You sound like a way cool person to hang out with, but not particularly a "romantic type". If you're funny all the time, it will be hard for the guy to get serious with you. He may think that you're going to make fun of him at the wrong times. Yeah, we (guys) have our weak moments...we're human, too...ya know?

OK sounds like your friend has an insecurity complex. It is not you, it is him. Do not let anyone ever tell you there is something wrong with humor. It is what gets us through the rough spots in life. You will find someone who loves your humor. God I love people who make me laugh.

Are you kidding me? I am funny, loud, opinionated, sarcastic... all of the above and more. I have NEVER had a problem with guys.
Your friends is full of it! Don't try to find a boyfriend and one will find you!
You may be looking/trying to hard! That will send a red flag up every time.

There's nothing wrong with girls who are funny. You will find the right guy, and he'll love your sence of humory, and still respect you. It may take time, but in the end it's worth it.

No there's not... no offense to your friend, but I don't think he knows what he's talking about. I know lots of funny girls who have guys all over them all the time..
