Throw in some chunks of peeled potatos - those draw the salt in and help take it out of the soup. Discard the potatos after they've boiled for a while.

Potatoes take up salt as previous responders have detailed. But I am wondering if you are making your own soup from ham you are cooking first?
If so you need to soak the uncooked ham first over a 24 hour period, changing the water every 8 hours.
This will remove a high salt element

Add more water to you soup or add other veggies--boiled potatoes are a good one or peas--they soak up salt well..I don't know what kind of soup this is but if you add a bit of sugar or lemon to salty dishes, the salt taste decreases..You could also garnish it with parsley or cilantro--this also will take up salt

Try this. Peel a white potato and place it in the soup. When it is cooked through, take it out and throw it away. My mother used this trick when soups or stews got over salted. I'm afraid though that if you started with a ham that was to salty to begin with, my trick won't help.

You're pretty much screwed dude, though you can try adding tiny amounts of sugar to offset salt flavor. Might work, might not, but remember little bit at a time stir thouroughly taste, add alittle bit more etc., etc.,etc.

Cut up a potato or two into quarters and toss it in. It shouldn't affect the flavor of the soup and it will suck up all the salt.
