Activate the software that came with the scanner and a menu should pop up asking you if you want to scan pictures or text or a combination of the two.

Some software will ask if you want to scan in colour or black and white. There should be options to state where you want the scanned pictures saved.

Other details such as how many dots per inch you prefer your images to be should be on the menu too.

select what you want and then click on "Scan".

Some scanners (newer ones) have a scan button on the scanner that automates everything.

Most scanner are hard to use and the sw is also hard to use.
you usually have to run the sw that came with the scanner.

The easiest way to scan pictures into your PC and easily mail them around or put them on the web is to buy a product called :
PaperPort , by a company Visioneer.
It is soooo easy anyone can scan a black and white text document or a color photo in seconds.
I do not work for this company, just own one and love it.

Every scanner conmes with software ( on a CD ) and installation/operating instructions.

If you don't have this, you may be able to go to the manufacturer's website and download them.

Without the software, i don't think you can scan and manipulate images.
