I want to get rid of programs that start each time my system boots up. I previously used Win XP but now shifted to Win 2000 pro.

I don't remember what it was called in Win XP sysconfig.exe or msconfig.exe

Both of these are much better than "msconfig"

I believe you mean "msconfig". And the msconfig.exe from XP will work just as well on 2000, I know this because I used it on my machine at work which is running 2000 when I noticed it didn't come with msconfig built in. Just download it from here and you're sorted:
